Text

Minister, on the back of the last question, we have a serious issue in the Southern Trust, where maternity services, not just at Daisy Hill Hospital but in Craigavon Area Hospital, are in jeopardy. That raises a fundamental question for you, your Department and, indeed, the trust. It cannot all be left at the door of the trust. I accept that you feel that it informed you late of the difficulties that it is having. Apart from having meetings, what specifically can you do and what actions can you take to ensure that the situation with maternity services at Daisy Hill and Craigavon — I am told that both are in a serious situation — is resolved immediately? That is the stabilisation bit for women in the area that I represent.
