Text
NIEA has in place an enforcement policy regarding water pollution investigations. It is important that I encourage everyone to report pollution incidents promptly. I have had Members report pollution incidents to me far too late in the day. We need those reports to come through immediately. We have a pollution hotline that operates 24/7. The earlier that we receive the reports, the easier it is for us to investigate them and, hopefully, bring about prosecution. Bringing prosecutions around water pollution that meet an evidential threshold can be difficult. Getting the reports early, with as much information as possible, will help us to bring forward prosecutions.
