Text

The Budget sustainability plan is not, and was never intended to be, a panacea for addressing all the fiscal issues that the Executive face. Rather, it is the first step in a financial sustainability journey, providing a strategic framework that will allow Departments to consider how they can deliver long-term, sustainable public services and everything that is required for them to be able to do that. I hope that people will take confidence from the work that has already taken place, and that the strategic framework will enable further work on longer-term departmental plans and a strategic Budget improvement plan. Those will contribute to the delivery of efficient and effective public services, and the long-term fiscal stability that our citizens and those who access public services so rightly expect.
