Text
I am very aware of the impact of sewage pollution on our rivers, lakes and loughs in Northern Ireland. I do not think that it is acceptable for us to be pumping sewage into those waterbodies. That needs to be addressed, because it has an impact on our environment. That is why I will continue to support John O'Dowd in his call for investment in waste water infrastructure. We cannot continue with this situation, because it is damaging our environment and holding back economic development and housebuilding. I am very aware of the concerns about the impact on Lough Foyle. I have been assured, from a public health perspective, about the safety of drinking water, but let us be clear: the impact on our environment is severe, not just in the area that the Member represents but across Northern Ireland.
