Text
I highlighted in the response to the question that I have accepted 324 invitations. I have discharged hundreds of those requests. I have been in countless schools and community facilities that represent every section of our society and every sector in education. If Members were to put that question to every other Minister, I would be interested to hear how many invites they have accepted and meetings they have attended and to compare my record with theirs. That is maybe something that colleagues will do. I will not make any apology for making sure that we seek to move every part of our society forward. Unlike the Member's previous leader, the late John Hume, I do have concern and share some of the concerns that people have expressed. When John Hume embraced Gerry Adams and Sinn Féin, while the IRA was up to its neck in murdering the people of our country, his response was:
"I don't give two balls of roasted snow ... what you think."
I, however, do have concern, and I share those concerns, but I will continue to work in every community to bring them forward.

Assessment
Legacy of the Troubles, victims and paramilitarism
Decided as qualifying on a second assessment, because Jev’s answers did not settle it. The reasons are given below.
- Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.57 (qualifying needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not qualifying).
- None of the five culture-war criteria was met (each was below 0.60).
- The text adopts the identity-based framing in its own voice (0.49).
- Subject area: Legacy of the Troubles, victims and paramilitarism.
- The answers did not meet either automatic threshold.
This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.
Second assessment
Jev’s answers did not settle this record, so a second model, claude-opus-5-5, read the same text (without the MLA’s name or party) and gave its reasons on 21 October 2026. How the second assessment works

Against the published rubric
The answer begins by defending a record of ministerial engagement ("324 invitations", schools "in every section of our society"), which is ordinary accountability material. It then turns to the questioner's late party leader, saying he "embraced Gerry Adams and Sinn Féin, while the IRA was up to its neck in murdering the people of our country", and quotes a dismissive remark to contrast with the Minister's own stance. This brings a Troubles-era grievance against a rival tradition's political history into a question about ministerial meetings. It is disproportionate to the policy point and functions as legacy-based point-scoring rather than an answer.
Public interest or divisiveness
The first half advances the public interest by setting out the Minister's engagement and a stated aim to "move every part of our society forward". The second half deflects scrutiny by reopening a communal argument about who engaged with whom during the Troubles, aimed at the questioner's party. Both parts are substantial, but the closing attack is the evident rhetorical point of the reply.
