Text

Regional balance is a commitment in the draft Programme for Government. In line with that commitment, I announced a new approach to regional economic development last week. Invest NI subsequently launched its business strategy for consultation. In the strategy, the new regional operating model is prioritised. The business strategy includes a commitment to increase the headcount of regional offices by an initial 40%. It also commits Invest NI to delivering 65% of its investments outside the Belfast metropolitan area by the end of the three-year period. It is the first time that Invest NI has set corporate regional targets. My Department and Invest NI are firmly committed to delivering greater regional economic balance.
