Text
Prisoner numbers have been at almost 2,000 for a sustained period. Current officer recruitment will only bring levels to that required for a population of 1,450, leaving officers and regimes under considerable strain. What can be done to expedite recruitment to bring officer numbers to the level appropriate for the prison population, and is there sufficient money in the new departmental budget to do so?
