Text
The Member is absolutely right. When we think about support staff, we are talking about some of the lowest-paid workers in the public sector, and yet they are delivering vital services — your classroom assistants, cooks and bus drivers. The action short of a strike in this area has been having a detrimental impact on the outcomes for children and young people, particularly in our special schools, when strikes have taken place. I want to see the pay and grading review successfully dealt with. I will meet the unions again on 18 April to give them another update. It is now very much over to the Executive to make the funding available for this to be resolved.
