Text
The bid that I will put forward will certainly challenge Executive colleagues to match that ambition. It also puts into stark focus why my party leader, at the time of the discussions with the Government, said that the financial package was not enough. Other parties said, "Get the Executive back up and running". Our position was constitutional — it was not based on financial considerations — but we made it clear that it would not be enough. Others said, "We can fight this fight from within". I quoted to Mr Tennyson what his party leader said at the time, and I look forward to seeing how effective that strategy is when it comes to securing the additional funding that is needed. We as a party have outlined from day 1 that we are underfunded and that that needs to be corrected, and we will continue to make that representation to the Treasury.
