Reiterating Unconditional Support for the Rule of Law - Amendment 1
Leave out all after ‘devolved institutions;’ and insert: ‘notes the PSNI investigation into the recent unnotified protest on the Garvaghy Road in Portadown; reaffirms that all elected representatives have a responsibility to uphold the rule of law; condemns any statement or action that undermines public confidence in the impartial application of the law; stresses that the rule of law must be applied consistently and without fear or favour by the relevant authorities; supports the operational independence of the PSNI and other relevant bodies in determining if offences have been committed, free from political interference; calls on all political leaders and community representatives to work towards dialogue, de-escalation and reconciliation; and further calls on the UK Government to consider steps to strengthen democratic accountability in the Assembly as part of a wider package of institutional reforms.’
