Minimum Unit Pricing for Alcohol
That this Assembly recognises the significant and growing impact of alcohol related harm on public health, including an increase of 65 per cent in alcohol specific deaths since 2013; further recognises minimum unit pricing of alcohol as one of the most effective interventions available to reduce alcohol related harm; notes that minimum unit pricing of alcohol is already in operation across these islands; further notes with regret that the DUP are blocking the introduction of minimum unit pricing legislation here; acknowledges specific modelling which indicates that its introduction would reduce alcohol consumption, hospital admissions and health inequalities; and calls on the Minister of Health and the Executive to support the introduction of minimum unit pricing for alcohol.
