Text
Failure to Commission a Statutory Inquiry into the Cervical Screening Scandal
That this Assembly condemns the decision of the Minister of Health not to commission a statutory inquiry into failings in cervical screening in the Southern Health and Social Care Trust; commends the campaigning of the Ladies With Letters campaign group and endorses their conclusion that the Minister is failing to uncover the full truth of the cervical screening scandal; notes the explicit conclusion in the Summary Report on Issues Related to Northern Ireland Cervical Screening Programme, from Professor Sir Frank Atherton, that an inquiry would give greater assurance around full information disclosure and the truthfulness of testimony by individuals and organisations involved in the scandal; and calls on the Minister to commission a statutory inquiry into the cervical screening scandal in order to ensure accountability and a full and truthful account of the actions and failures involved.
