Funding for the Northern Ireland Place-Name Project
That this Assembly acknowledges the important role of the Northern Ireland Place-Name Project in supporting local councils to produce accurate translations for dual language street name signs; recognises its wider contribution to the protection and promotion of linguistic and cultural heritage; believes that the decision to remove funding for this vital project is short-sighted and risks undermining progress on language rights, cultural expression and good relations and is in keeping with a Minister who has frequently prioritised division on language and cultural issues; expresses concern at the manner in which this decision has been taken, including contradictory statements from the Minister for Communities; and calls on the Minister for Communities to work with the Minister of Finance to ensure that funding for the Northern Ireland Place-Name Project is restored as a matter of urgency.
