Reinstatement of Postal Services (Revised Wording)

That this Assembly notes with concern the significant delays in Royal Mail postal services which are negatively impacting local communities; recognises that its business model, which prioritises parcel deliveries to drive profits, is inconsistent with its Universal Service Obligation to deliver letters; acknowledges the detrimental impact on people who are missing medical appointments, MOTs and other appointments and receiving urgent communications late; further acknowledges that changes to services in 2025, such as allowing Second Class letters to be delivered on alternate week days, has further exacerbated delays; urges Royal Mail to ensure that staff holidays are adequately covered to improve delivery service levels; and calls on Ofcom to reconsider the changes to Royal Mail’s functions which have enabled it to further renege on its Universal Service Obligation and caused further delays in delivering letters.
