Voluntary Contributions in Schools
That this Assembly notes that the practice of requesting voluntary contributions is common in many schools; recognises that the need for voluntary contributions is a consequence of the underfunding of our schools over a long period of time; acknowledges that many families feel compelled to make voluntary contributions despite financial pressures they may face; further notes that teachers and school staff also make voluntary contributions towards providing additional learning resources and materials for pupils; calls on the Minister of Education to review the practice of voluntary contributions in order to understand its extent across our school system and how voluntary contributions are being used; and further calls on the Minister to strengthen current guidance for schools to ensure contributions are clearly understood as voluntary.
