Prison Service Staff
That this Assembly acknowledges the exceptional work of the Northern Ireland Prison Service; understands that members of the Prison Service are regarded as members of the Northern Ireland Civil Service; recognises that the Northern Ireland Civil Service Staff Handbook does not take into account the unique role, working conditions and psychological strain faced by the Prison Service; and calls on the Minister of Finance to urgently review the Civil Service Staff Handbook to ensure it acknowledges the unique position of the Prison Service within the Northern Ireland Civil Service, particularly around sickness absence policies and the continued use of the term inefficiency in relation to mental health concerns amongst prison staff.
