Text
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, given the delay in EU UK agreement talks scheduled for July 2026, to detail (i) any mitigations is he planning to put in place to protect local agribusiness, given the end of a large number of grace periods on sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) rules commencing in July 2026; (ii) any guidance he has been given by the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) and other Government departments on the future implementation of SPS checks, given that there is no likelihood of UK mitigations; and (iii) whether he will reconsider the introduction of the Emissions Trading Scheme (Maritime) tariff on the 1 July 2026, as was specifically requested by the NIO to assist in facilitating agreement on carbon emissions trading at the now delayed EU UK agreement talks.
