Assessment

Not qualifying

Decided as not qualifying on a second assessment, because Jev’s answers did not settle it. The reasons are given below.

  • Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.57 (qualifying needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not qualifying).
  • Criteria met: Identity framing (0.74); Cultural grievance politics (0.68).
  • The text adopts the identity-based framing in its own voice (0.93).
  • Subject area: Religion and belief (including people of no religion), churches, faith communities and religious prejudice (including antisemitism and anti-Muslim prejudice).
  • The answers did not meet either automatic threshold.

This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.

Second assessment

Jev’s answers did not settle this record, so a second model, claude-opus-5-5, read the same text (without the MLA’s name or party) and gave its reasons on 21 October 2026. How the second assessment works

Against the published rubric

The question asks what the department will do in response to a Supreme Court judgment on religious education and collective worship, a decision the department actually has to make. The rubric expressly treats religious education and the place of religion in public life as legitimate policy subjects. The wording "protect the Christian ethos" takes a side and implies the ethos is at risk. However, it does not portray non-religious families, other faiths or the claimants as a threat, and the phrase "every child, who wishes to" frames the request around choice rather than exclusion.

Public interest or divisiveness

The main function is to press the minister on how policy will change after a binding court ruling. That is substantive scrutiny of a live legal and educational issue, even though the speaker clearly favours preserving Christian instruction. Advocating a position on religion in schools, without hostility to any group or contesting its place in public life, is ordinary democratic activity rather than identity point-scoring.
