Text

No, because I have lots to get through and I do not have extra minutes. The Members opposite have taken the opportunity to re-traumatise two victims of a vile predator, Jeffrey Donaldson. The men — the men — who did that are dripping with misogyny. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You are from the party whose leader is charged with tackling violence against women and girls. This is the most dangerous place to be a woman in the whole of the United Kingdom, and you are making light of the victims of a predator. Shameful. Utterly, utterly shameful.

You can shout all you like. You do not like what I am saying, and you know that it is the truth. May I also say that I am really bewildered by the SDLP's attitude? I get it; I understand it. I talk to nurses, doctors and teachers in my constituency all the time, and I want us to deliver public-sector pay and good conditions for those who are going into A&Es in the winter; we received a report about that just today. However, adherence to the rule of law is fundamental to our society. That is not a waste of time, and I am really sad that the SDLP, which withstood so much of the violence of the IRA and stood against it, got up in the Chamber and said what it said today. I turn to the one lawful determination that we have, which was for the Portadown district to complete its parade on 27 September. There were to be 35 Orangemen with no banners, flags or bands — only the Portadown district's banner. That determination was approved by the Parades Commission and was tested rigorously in court on 26 September. That lawful parade was blocked by an unauthorised and unlawful protest, which was led by the First Minister and other Ministers in the Northern Ireland Executive. Incredibly, that protest was facilitated by the Police Service of Northern Ireland while, unbelievably, the lawful parade was not. People looking in will wonder why some people say that this place is dysfunctional: it is dysfunctional because we have Members on the opposite Benches who do not uphold the law. This week's events in the courts also posed some very significant questions about law and order in Northern Ireland and, indeed, for elected representatives in the House. Why, when the Chief Constable had a lawful determination on 26 September, did he not take the necessary security measures that could have allowed a lawful parade to proceed? Over the course of Monday and Tuesday in the High Court in Belfast, we have heard some interesting accounts of the intelligence that underpinned the decisions that were taken. There were references to the feelings of the Provisional IRA. I know that the Members opposite do not care about that and are laughing and smirking. People are watching you, wondering what on earth you are about. The House should carefully consider that statement. The law-abiding citizens of Northern Ireland deserve to know exactly what that means. What was the security assessment in relation to the Provisional IRA that underpinned the decisions that were taken? There are plenty of pictures of the Provos directing you on the Garvaghy Road.

Assessment

Flagged Sexism, misogyny, ageism and other equality groups

Jev’s structured answers met every documented threshold for flagging as culture-war activity.

  • Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.81 (flagging needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not flagged).
  • Criteria met: Cultural grievance politics (0.62); Dog-whistle messaging (0.74).
  • The text adopts the identity-based framing in its own voice (0.71).
  • Subject area: Sexism, misogyny, ageism and other equality groups.
  • The text adopts an antagonistic or dog-whistle framing, which is flagged even alongside legitimate scrutiny.

What a flag means. A flag means the activity contains at least one instance of culture-war framing that met the published test. It does not mean the whole activity is divisive, or that its substantive arguments are wrong.

This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.

A second, larger AI model can read this record again, without being told the MLA’s name or party, against the same published rubric. It also asks whether the activity mainly serves the public interest or mainly advances division. Its verdict replaces the current one, whichever way it goes, and its reasons are published here. Each record can have one second assessment.

If you still think the record or its classification is wrong after that, or the record itself has a factual error, you can challenge it. A person reads every challenge, and any change is recorded publicly above with its reason.
