Text
As I said, I have received an interim update from Phil Copple, but it would be best to await the outcome of the review in its totality. Every time this matter is raised in the public domain is distressing to the Kelly family, and I am therefore not keen to give a lot of interim updates. There will be an update shortly, and I will be able to share that with Members. I think that most of us know what the key issues were. The review will not be able to look at judicial processes, for example, but only at those that pertain to the Prison Service and the Departmental Solicitor's Office. However, I think that we will get a good, clear picture from the review. As to what more can be done, the priority must always, ultimately, be the protection of the public. As I have said, compassionate temporary release is important, but it is a privilege, not a right.
