Text
As I set out in my response, I met industry representatives in Kilkeel in July and committed to working with them to co-design options to secure the sector's long-term future. It is about setting out a long-term vision and strategy. I get the concerns about the pressures in the fishing industry, and they are raised with me regularly. Regulations are essential in order to allow us to be able to trade and to ensure that the fishing industry has a sustainable future. It is important that the UK Government step up and provide support on fuel and that the assistance that they provided earlier this year continues beyond the Budget next Wednesday. The Member will be aware that pressures with crew availability arise largely from changes to immigration policy effected by the UK Government — changes that your party welcomed in its response to the White Paper.
