Text
John, that is exactly what it was about. While the DUP has treated Northern Ireland as an environmental sacrifice zone, I am proud to be the only Minister in the history of the Department to treat the needs of our environment with the respect that it deserves. Environmental protection and climate action are not optional extras; they are central to the future of agriculture, rural communities, fisheries, food production, our economy and public well-being. What you get with me is openness, fairness, an ethical approach to policymaking and a belief that we can create a healthier environment for everyone. It is therefore little wonder that the DUP does not like me: I do not bow to its self-serving demands and the narrow sections of society that it seeks to serve.
