Text
Since the publication of the Together: Building a United Community (T:BUC) strategy in 2013, TEO has led on its implementation and delivered a range of good relations programmes aimed at building good relations and understanding across communities, including in areas that have had contested parades. For example, a range of funding has been provided directly to the Portadown area this year, including £27,629 through the central good relations fund for a project working with young people close to the Portadown interface. The district council good relations programme has allocated £12,000 to good relations projects in the Ardoyne community this year. Other funding streams are delivering good relations in communities across Belfast and beyond. This year, over £8 million has been allocated to good relations programmes in TEO and other Departments for T:BUC headline actions. Through programmes such as the central good relations programme, T:BUC camps and many others, communities have been supported to engage in shared activities, build trust and strengthen relationships. Evidence shows that the programmes are making a real difference. We have seen a positive change in how participants view people from different communities, as well as greater awareness and understanding of different cultures and traditions. There are wider benefits too, with many young people developing new skills, greater confidence and increased self-belief.
