Text
I know what our responsibility is when it comes to equality legislation, but there will not be a meeting of minds on the armed forces covenant. There will not be political agreement on how to proceed on that. My position is as I just stated: there cannot be special status or preferential treatment for British state forces. The British Government are solely responsible for their armed forces and for ensuring that they bring in any protections that they wish to. There will not be agreement on that in our office.
