Text
As the father of two young drivers, I assure you that I am acutely aware of the cost of insurance in this society. It is prohibitive to many and needs to be properly managed and regulated, as seen in a number of evidence sources, some of which Mr Kingston outlined. As I said, we are working our way through it. It has taken 20 months for the Association of British Insurers to send us the information that we currently have, which is disappointing. However, we now have that information, and we will analyse it. I will decide on what moves we can and should make next. By and large, this is not a devolved matter; it falls under the remit of the British Government. However, I assure you that I will do everything within my powers to ensure that young people — and older people — here are treated fairly by the insurance industry.
