Text
The Education Authority is responsible for the operation and delivery of home-to-school transport, including making the necessary arrangements to support the safe transport of children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs. Transport arrangements for pupils with a statement of SEN are considered on an individual basis to ensure that their specific transport requirements are met. The EA also considers requests for alternative transport arrangements where a pupil's medical condition or mobility needs require additional support. The EA provides transport assistance through a variety of means, such as its own yellow bus fleet, which includes wheelchair-accessible vehicles, Translink passes and transport procured from private operators. Where transport is provided by a private operator, the EA specifies any requirements for wheelchair access or other specialist provision. I recognise the importance of ensuring that children and young people can travel to and from school safely and reliably. I will continue to engage with the EA on transport for pupils with disabilities and special educational needs.
