Text
Eight of the world's largest companies have made $93 billion profit in just three months of Israel and America's ongoing war against Iran. We all know that escalating food, oil and energy costs are exacerbating the ongoing cost-of-living crisis for ordinary workers and families. This is a time when families are being forced to choose between heating and eating, so it is an absolute travesty that, during this cost-of-living crisis, the working-class community of the Garvaghy Road should be subjected to the irrationality of a triumphalist sectarian parade and reactionary politics being forced upon their area. Earlier this year, the world's top oil and gas companies made $30 million profit every minute during the early stages of that war. Some have quadrupled their profits in a period in which we are experiencing unprecedented levels of global inequality and hunger. The case is now compelling: the British Government should redistribute existing windfall taxes to support working people. They should cut tax and VAT on oil, petrol and diesel to reduce costs for consumers. It is time that the big corporations were brought to heel and compelled to pay their fair share of taxes, and it is time that ordinary workers and families were given a break.
