Text
As I set out in my previous responses about the investigation, we are keen to look at a number of areas further. I have set out my concerns in that regard. It is an opportune time to really reflect on that and ensure that we can satisfy ourselves that public money is being in spent in the way in which 'Managing Public Money NI' sets out. It is an opportunity for us to engage very closely with NI Water to address those concerns, and I hope that we are able to do so. However, as Minister and someone who, every year, allocates a significant quantum of funding to NI Water, which we know is financially constrained and requires significantly more investment, it is important that I have that assurance going forward. A number of issues led to this. I am satisfied that the process that we followed in the Department had explored every option to date. However, this was my next step and it had to happen.
