Text
We are meant to be discussing the general principles of the Bill. I take on board the Member's point about there being a cross-departmental element involved in community relations — the Department for Communities and the Executive Office have responsibilities, for example — but an amendment could be tabled to have some sort of interdepartmental unit do the assessment. That would sit neatly within the Bill. It would certainly not be outside its scope. Amendments to the Bill can be tabled following the scrutiny stage before being voted on at Consideration Stage. If the Member supports the principles of the Bill, I therefore encourage her to support its getting to Committee Stage so that we can find a mechanism for such decisions to be taken transparently.
