Text
I do not want the Member to misunderstand me. I have given you the position as of August 2026. The mandate does not end until next May. That is the period for which we will calculate the final number of starts. I am not saying that the target is out of reach: I still believe that we can reach that target and ensure that we have started new social homes. I have not given up on that. I will continue to press Executive colleagues to give me the funding. It will be tricky, but it is doable. I will do everything that I can to ensure that it happens. The initial reaction and advice from my officials is that the change in the grant rate has not led to what some people had predicted. I still believe that, when the final analysis is done, we will see that we have been able to build more social homes with the available money. I thank the housing associations for stretching themselves and doing that work, because it means that we can stretch the money that we have further, which will contribute to more social homes being built under my leadership.
