Text

One can only speculate as to why Sinn Féin does not want to have a managing authority for controlled schools — a sector that caters predominantly for the Protestant community, albeit its schools' enrolments are becoming increasingly diverse. One can only speculate on why it wants to make provision for the continuation of the Catholic Council for Maintained Schools (CCMS) — a managing authority for Catholic schools — but does not want the controlled sector to have a managing authority. Most people can see through why Sinn Féin does not want the controlled sector to get the support. I believe that it is infected with a sectarian bias when it comes to this issue, given that all that we are asking for is equality. To those who championed equality for many years, I ask this question: where is the equality for controlled schools? We have a Bill that has been blocked: Sinn Féin is blocking it. Alliance has indicated that it would allow it to come forward to the Assembly for scrutiny, so there is not an issue with it coming out of the Executive, but one party — one alone — is blocking the Bill from coming forward. People can see what the motivation is and why that has been the case.

This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.

Disagree with this assessment?

A second, larger AI model can read this record again, without being told the MLA’s name or party, against the same published rubric. It also asks whether the activity mainly serves the public interest or mainly advances division. Its verdict replaces the current one, whichever way it goes, and its reasons are published here. Each record can have one second assessment.

If you still think the record or its classification is wrong after that, or the record itself has a factual error, you can challenge it. A person reads every challenge, and any change is recorded publicly above with its reason.
