Text
Minister, I welcome you to the role. I will be a constructive and critical friend. Minister, Robin Swann faltered in his decision-making on emergency general surgery at the SWAH. Minister Nesbitt acquiesced on the removal of emergency general surgery. You are keeping the seat warm until May. Temporary removal of emergency general surgery is four years down the line, so this is a can-kicking exercise, which is completely farcical. Figures that I obtained during the summer showed that it takes 16·5 hours for an ambulance transfer from the SWAH to Altnagelvin Hospital: that is unacceptable. We do not have the extra commissioned ambulance service provision that we were promised four years ago. Minister, your first decision — the decision about this committee — was announced by the UUP before it was announced by your Department. Is this Butler or Burrows’s decision-making? Can we expect the same in the lead-up to the May election, particularly around decisions on emergency general surgery at the SWAH?
