Text
I also formally welcome the new Minister to his role and thank the previous Minister for his work. I do not think that anybody will argue that the health service needs more reviews; in fact, what it needs are timely decisions and implementations. I also do not think that anybody will argue against independent scrutiny; in fact, the Minister owes his job not to independent scrutiny but to political interference, so we absolutely need independent scrutiny. The issue here is decision and delay. The Minister talked about the press coverage since his announcement. He has made a statement and is answering questions today, but I am still none the wiser about exact time frames for the independent committee. When will it be set up, and when can Members of the Assembly and I, as Health Committee Chair, see that group sitting and making decisions? We want to know how many decisions that committee will make in advance of the Assembly election.
