Text
That is precisely why I have commissioned an independent external review on that matter. If there was wrongdoing or if mistakes were made, it is important that that is identified and published and that lessons are learnt. I am clear that there should be openness and transparency on it. I will not pre-empt the outcome of the review, but I can say that, if people examine the facts, they will understand that the story is not what others have decided to tell. In relation to the humane slaughter of animals, that happened well before my mandate, but I get the concerns about it, and I share them. I have seen the footage, and it would be strange if I were not distressed by it. It is important to have the independent external review and that the findings and recommendations are published.
