Text
As the Member is likely aware, there have been developments in the European Union and, of course, in the UK in relation to AI. There have been reports, including one published by the UK Government over the summer around AI's impact on the creative industries. This document does something slightly different. It is not about legislation or regulation; it is a framework for the use of AI in the public sector in particular. It does not touch on either of those particularly, but you are absolutely right: we need to get it correct from the start. Therefore, we need an international conversation about how we define things and the safeguards that are in place. The reality is that AI does not respect boundaries; it goes much beyond that. That means that the dangers of AI and the images that it creates, for example, go beyond the boundaries of any particular jurisdiction. We need to have cooperation right from the outset so that the problems and issues that we see emerging, such as different definitions, are not allowed to bed in. We need a joint approach.
