Text
Less than half is a significant number in this case. That is an agency contract with DFC. It is set out in the DWP contract, as I understand it, it meets the needs of DWP and, in some instances, it meets the needs of staff, although I accept that that is not always the case. I want us to move to having a more sustainable workforce. On the question of guaranteeing current agency staff full-time employment, my understanding is that all posts must be applied for and filled on merit and that agency staff cannot be automatically transferred to permanent roles; that is not possible under current employment law and other laws. However, as I said in my original answer, we are looking at a variety of ways of ensuring that we have a sustainable workforce in which the rights and entitlements of the workforce are protected and that it increasingly draws in more of those who wish to move away from agency work, enabling them to do so.
