Text

As I said in answer to the previous question, it would depend on whether primary or secondary legislation required changing. GRO has been contacted on the issue approximately five times in the past year, usually by couples seeking clarification that the information provided by the registrar is correct. Legislation takes time to go through the House, depending on what category it falls into. I suspect that it may be the next mandate before this can be finalised. As I said, GRO is investigating, and I have no doubt that there would be a willingness in the Chamber and in Committees to move the matter forward as quickly as possible, as long as we can be assured that we are making the correct changes.
