We are the appointing authority for a range of public appointments, including the Police Ombudsman. As legislation currently stands, we have no lawful basis on which to impose the suspension of an office holder who is appointed under the statute unless the statute makes provision. I can say that we have approved plans for legislation to introduce a power to suspend for a number of such appointments. We expect to bring those clauses forward very shortly.
