Text
Thank you very much, Mr Deputy Speaker. I thank the Members who contributed to the debate. It might have been a short debate, but it is on an important issue. The regulations represent my Department's ongoing commitment to driving forward the highest possible standards of animal welfare. This is one of the key areas in the animal welfare pathway that the Department is pursuing. The proposed regulations will strengthen confidence that proper standards are being upheld at the point at which animals are at their most vulnerable. The regulations have broad support, as indicated by the response to the consultation and the response of the Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs. I thank the Committee for the work that it has done on the regulations through its scrutiny. The regulations have been agreed by the Executive. I am therefore pleased to commend the motion to the House.
