Text

On a point of order, Mr Speaker

It is a point of order, Mr Speaker. Last week, when I raised the issue of appropriate language in the Chamber, I drew attention to the 2009 ruling of your predecessor William Hay, in which he said that not only the content of speech but the context of speech would be considered in deciding whether speech was appropriate. Last night, I raised a further point of order on the use of language by a Member saying out loud that Members in the House had spoken mistruths? That, as you will be aware, is contrary to the rulings of Erskine May, which have formed the basis of the rules of this House. I would like to receive some assurance that, while you may not answer those points of order today, they will, as valid points of order, be addressed at some point.

Assessment

Not flagged

Jev’s structured answers met the documented threshold for “not flagged”.

  • Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.09 (flagging needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not flagged).
  • None of the five culture-war criteria was met (each was below 0.60).
  • No identity-based framing was identified (0.94).
  • The overall probability was at or below the not-flagging threshold.

This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.
