Text
We have written to the Prime Minister outlining the scale of the pressures on public finances and the implications for service delivery. The Secretary of State responded on 28 April on the Prime Minister’s behalf, reaffirming his view that funding is sufficient overall. However, our view is that the current fiscal position is unsustainable and that more should and could be done. We have sought a meeting with the Secretary of State to discuss the issues further, and, of course, we have asked for an urgent meeting with the Prime Minister as well. The Finance Minister continues to engage with the UK Government to underline the scale of the Executive’s financial challenges and to seek additional support to help to stabilise public finances. The Executive are united on this. We believe that the current allocation does not reflect our service pressures. Our focus remains on securing a fair, sustainable settlement while considering ongoing cost-of-living pressures.
