Text
I am happy to do so. As you know, at one stage, there were recommendations that police misconduct hearings would be held in public. That is not something that I believe that we are ready for in Northern Ireland. The recommendations related to senior officers, but I still believe that it is a step too far, given the attendant risks of doing the job at this point in time. It is important that there is accountability and that that is visible to the public, but I do not think that it is necessary for the hearings to be held in public or for names to be disclosed more widely, other than where there is a genuine public protection risk.
