Text

I thank the Member for giving way. As you were drawing your remarks to a close before the break, I indicated that there were a couple of things that I wanted to put on record. Mr Burrows said that he had to try on a number of occasions to get clarity on the issues before us. I set out those issues in my opening remarks, but, for clarity, if we go down the route of the amendments, we can circumscribe the dates in regulation. I explained that at the beginning of the debate. That would vary somewhat from the situation in England and Wales: the furthest date that they can go back is 2012. That date was chosen on the basis of when their code of conduct became live. I think that a similar date for the PSNI is 2016. That can be dealt with by regulation.
