Text
It will create something of an anomaly if we do not get the Bill through in the mandate, given that the current commissioner's term is due to end at the point at which a new statutory commissioner would come into being. That will create a challenge for the Department to manage. However, I am confident that, with goodwill and concerted effort, which I have had so far from the Justice Committee on the other Bills that have been brought to it, we can get it through by the end of the mandate. It is a relatively small Bill. I say that, recognising that Members are aware of my proclivities and those of the Chair of the Justice Committee when it comes to amendments. The victims and witnesses Bill is fairly tightly circumscribed and, hopefully, reasonably focused. It should be able to pass without overly long scrutiny.
